Frans-Hendrik Joubert, a Capetonian by birth, is our team’s newest CA(SA) and financial consultant. Frans completed his tertiary studies at Stellenbosch University and went on to complete his articles at PwC’s Cape Town office in their financial services department. He has gained exposure to several big financial services companies such as insurers, asset managers, pension funds and medical schemes; however to date, most enjoys working with entrepreneurs and start-ups. He has held the position of financial manager for mobile payments company Snapscan, as well as a US-based mobile technology company called JourneyApps, where he gained international exposure while reporting to a Silicon Valley VC firm.
When Frans saw OCFO’s advert on LinkedIn, the unique job description spoke well to his experience. He knew the directors from university and had explored business opportunities with them when OCFO first started in 2013. He was also one of the first subscribers to OCFO’s newsletter insights; how ironic that he is going from a loyal OCFO insights subscriber to being featured as a key staff member!
Frans has been taken aback by how friendly and accommodating the OCFO team have been, all whilst sticking to a solid work ethic within a professional environment. He admits that he underestimated the impact OCFO’s service offering has on clients and the resulting growth that they experience. He values OCFO’s methodology and shares a similar approach to business, standing behind OCFO’s concept of ‘rethink, automate, scale.’
Regarding principles, he says,
“In challenging business times, many companies are being placed under a magnifying glass… I think for a CA it’s very important to have integrity, and you cannot compromise on that.”
Whilst working at OCFO, Frans aims to grow his network and get exposure to a diverse range of companies in different industries. He adds, “I think it’s exciting because it gives me exposure to diverse companies that are in different stages of operation– from exciting new start-ups to well-established businesses.” One of the key reasons behind him joining OCFO is the opportunity to work with like-minded visionaries and entrepreneurs on unique projects – watch this space!
When asked why he gets up every day? He points it to the entrepreneurial spirit that fuels him. He says,
“I have a lot of respect for entrepreneurs who take the risk and build something significant from scratch.”
When he’s not working on complex financial models, cash flow budgets, or just being awesome by helping businessmen and women realise their dreams, he is birdwatching. With a Southern Africa life list of 803 bird species seen, he is also the current record holder for recording the most birds within a 150km radius of Cape Town within one calendar year: 338 species. You can also catch Frans out on a run, on a surfboard, or on a stage playing the electric guitar with his band ‘ASMBLY.’
We are tremendously glad to have Frans be part of the OCFO family, and we are sure that he will add great value to the OCFO community.
